Indore: Khajrana police arrested a 29-year-old man and seized 590 prohibited alprazolam tablets along with a scooter during a late-night crackdown on illegal narcotics.
Khajrana police station in-charge Manoj Sendhav said the accused, Sadan Lahori, a resident of Khajrani Kakad, works as a painter and has studied up to Class 12. Acting on a tip-off, a police team was deployed to keep watch in the area. During checks near Talai, in front of Bada Madrassa, officers noticed a man standing beside a two-wheeler who tried to flee on seeing them. He was quickly surrounded and detained.
A search led to the recovery of 590 alprazolam tablets, a banned psychotropic substance, for which the accused could not produce any licence or documents. The tablets are valued at over ₹1,700, while the seized scooter is estimated to be worth around ₹60,000, taking the total value of the seizure to about ₹61,700.
During questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to being addicted to alprazolam. He told police that to support his addiction, he procured the tablets cheaply from his in-laws’ place in Tonk district and sold them at higher prices to other addicts in Indore.
