Bareilly: A minor quarrel over a spilled glass of liquor turned fatal in Bareilly’s Bithri area, where a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death on Wednesday evening. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the incident, while one remains absconding.

The victim, Abhishek Kumar, son of a retired Army personnel, had gone to a local liquor shop with his friend Vikas. At the venue, they met several acquaintances — Gopi (25), Deepak (28), Hukam Singh (22), Raunak (19), and Rajan (28). During the gathering, Kumar accidentally spilled his drink, which sparked an argument that soon escalated into a violent confrontation.

According to police, the group chased Abhishek and Vikas to a nearby fair, where they surrounded them and allegedly attacked Abhishek with a knife. Vikas sustained minor injuries while trying to intervene but managed to flee.

Abhishek was stabbed in the chest and collapsed on the spot. A post-mortem revealed a deep, three-inch wound that caused profuse bleeding and proved fatal.

C.P. Shukla, SHO of Bithri police station, said an FIR was filed on October 15 under BNS Section 103 (murder). “The chargesheet will be finalized after verifying evidence and recording witness statements,” he said.

SP (North) Mukesh Mishra confirmed that Gopi, Deepak, Hukam Singh, and Raunak have been arrested, while Rajan is still on the run. “Raids are being carried out to trace him,” he added.
