INDORE: In a tragic accident on Sunday afternoon, a van collided with a motorcycle, killing the biker instantly, before veering off the road and plunging into a well in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district. Ten van passengers lost their lives in the crash, while four others were critically injured.

In a heroic but heartbreaking effort, a 42-year-old local villager managed to rescue three passengers before succumbing to toxic gas inhalation inside the well.

A Special Disaster Emergency Response Force team used a crane to retrieve the van, which had been headed to Aantari Mata Temple in Neemuch’s Manasa. Authorities also pumped out 8 to 10 feet of water to ensure no one remained trapped.

The injured—including a three-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy—were rushed to Mandsaur District Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, District Collector Aditi Garg, and Superintendent of Police Abhishek Anand personally oversaw the rescue operations. The collector announced compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of each deceased victim and ₹50,000 for each injured survivor.
