ROHTAK: A 35-year-old woman has accused four men of gang-raping her in an unoccupied train coach at Panipat station on the night of June 24. She also claims that after the assault, she was severely injured when a passing train severed one of her feet as she wandered, disoriented and traumatized, along the tracks.
In a statement to the media on Monday, the woman shared how a domestic dispute escalated into a horrific night of violence, leaving her fighting for her life.
According to the survivor, the incident began on June 24, when her spouse allegedly beat her for refusing sexual contact. “My three-year-old kid died one month ago. I was traumatized and afraid of intimacy, but my husband continued forcing me. When I protested, he assaulted me and threatened, ‘If you don’t come with me, someone will rape you outside.’ Terrified, I packed my valuables and walked out into the night,” she told reporters from her hospital bed at PGIMS Rohtak.
On the way, the woman claims, a young man approached her and offered assistance, assuring her that she could spend the night safely with his “wife” despite the late hour.
He walked her to Panipat railway station and directed her to an empty coach of a stationary train, saying his luggage was inside.
“I was hesitant, but he kept reassuring me,” she remembered.
Inside the compartment, the man allegedly tried to rape her. When she tried to flee, she found three more men blocking her way. One after another, all four men raped her, ignoring her pleas for mercy, she alleged.
After the attackers left, the traumatized woman stumbled along the tracks towards Sonipat. Disoriented, she accidentally stepped into a pool of chemical residue near the rails. Moments later, a passing train struck her, severing one of her feet. She lost consciousness and later woke up at PGIMS Rohtak, where she is currently receiving treatment.
The Panipat GRP has filed a case against unidentified individuals on charges of gang rape and causing grievous injury. “The survivor’s statement is vital evidence, and we are working to make arrests soon,” said a senior GRP officer. The survivor has also submitted a statement against her husband, accusing him of prolonged domestic and sexual abuse.
